The visit

Visita al Castello del Catajo

During the visits inside the castle you will be toured   by official guide  who will explain and illustrates to you  peculiarities of the complex.

From the main entrance we reach to “Giant Courtyard “ which was often used  to stage up   plays (dearly loved by the Obizzi) and tournaments, included water tournaments since the lower  ground  level could be filled with water.

Among the fountains opposite the main  entrance, it is possible to note the Elephant fountain, built on the wishes of Pio Enea II in the second half of the 17th century. This fountain combines elements of mithology (Bacchus) with the new exotic discoveries typical of that century. The external stair ways starts here,  this was  built  so that to ride up a horse back We can see how the inside stairways were built directly from the rock.

On reaching the noble floor ,we go into the main hall, we seeb depicted frescoes on the walls, at the far end we can see  the  Obizzi family tree  starting with its founder Obicio I as far as the castle’s builder Pio Enea.

 

Terrazze del piano nobile del Castello del CatajoIn  this room we can admire the manners of which  frescoes are depicted  on the walls, a cycle of forty frescoes which narrates, vicissitudes, heroic gesture of The Obizzi;  scenes of  battles, wedding, murders, are refined by various allegories on the ceilings and ornamental panels over the doors.
After  this journey trough   the past on the noble floor, painted by Gian Battista Zelotti we can reach the terraces overlooking at  magnificent Euganean hills, and the various gardens in the park.

At the end  of the tour  we can have a nice walk   in the park where  we can see fish-ponds and several centuries-old sequoias and magnolias, which were the first ones to be imported to Europe from the newly discovered America.
